Vive la Vida - Coldplay

Vive la Vida - Coldplay

This is a song that kind of works an intertextuality with passages of the Holy Bible. It dialogues with the passage in wich Moses commands the red sea to open for the People of God to pass. It also uses a Psalm of David. That one when David prays to God so that God will deliver his enemies onto his hand in battle.

Depending on the class, you can tell them that this song makes an intertextuality with the Bible - more specifically with the Old Testment, the liberation of the Jews from the hands of Pharaoh - and ask them to identify such parts in the lyrics. In this case, you can give them the lyrics withoung any missing part. You can also put the stanzas out of order and ask them to order them according to what they hear. Another good idea would printing out two different hand-outs of the lyrics, in order to make them negotiate the missing parts in a pair work before you play the song to them. I did this at Colégio Ágora. It workd just fine. They enjoyed it a lot. Here goes the lyrics. Let me know how it works for you. Cheers!
